Losing your teeth is not only bad for health; it can also effect self-esteem and appearance. At Mountain View Dental, we offer an array of prosthodontic procedures that will give you the beautiful, healthy smile everyone wants.
Prosthodontics focuses on the aesthetic restoration and replacement of teeth. Using implants as a support system in many cases, prosthodontic procedures create a natural looking set of teeth that are safely secured to function as normal teeth would. There are many different reasons teeth fall out; regardless of what the reason is, we can help give you back your smile at Mountain View Dental.
Just like there are many reasons teeth fall out, there are also many different options for replacing them.
Some prosthodontic procedures offered at Mountain View Dental include:
Each of these procedures is designed to alleviate missing or cracked teeth. While they may all be aimed at accomplishing the same goal, they are all very different.
Crowns are normally crafted from porcelain-like material. As a synthetic cap placed on top of the tooth, crowns are usually used for teeth that have a great deal of decay or after a restorative procedure like a root canal.
In many cases, a tooth will be reduced in size to accommodate the crown.
Completely custom, each crown is designed to look natural and to blend with the rest of the teeth.
Used to “bridge” the gap between missing teeth, a bridge is a custom, natural looking dental appliance. They are usually constructed of porcelain or a combination of materials and are barely noticeable in the mouth.
Bridges come in a variety of types. The major difference between the types of bridges deals with being removable or permanent. Removable bridges, often referred to as fixed partial dentures, allow you to take them out and clean them. Fixed dental bridges, on the other hand, can only be removed by a dentist.
On top of simply closing the gap between missing teeth, bridges can also correct the contour of teeth and restore the proper bite relationship.
A popular procedure for stained, chipped or crooked teeth, veneers are thin porcelain or plastic pieces that are cemented on the front of the teeth. They are crafted from a model of the teeth, allowing them to contour and fit snugly on top of the teeth.
Due to the cement, veneers are usually permanent and are not reversible. In order to create a strong bond, a small amount of enamel is usually removed to accommodate the veneers being placed on top.
The oldest and most common prosthodontic procedure, dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. Dentures can be used for a few missing teeth (partial dentures) or when all teeth are missing (complete dentures).
